Message from The President of Indian Society of WA

It is my great pleasure and privilege to welcome you all on the auspicious occasion of the 64th anniversary of Indian Independence Day celebration.
Mahatma Gandhi was the spine and brain behind the Indian independence struggle. He used "Non-violence" or "Ahimsa" against the cannons and rifles of the so called "MIGHTY" British.

India's independence struggle is a huge epic on it's own. India even today doesn't want resort to force or war unless there is some menace to the security/integrity of Indian unity. "Proud to be an Indian".

Independence Day is celebrated by every citizen of India irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Our Independence Day is a moment of pride and glory for us. On this special occasion, I pay my rich tributes to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives and fought to free their motherland.

On behalf of Indian Society of WA, it is my great pleasure to present this year's cultural show "Our India". This is a show case of a real India as different regions and states presenting their rich Indian Culture, traditions and heritage. This cultural extravaganza is the result of months of dedicated hard work, patriotism and the enthusiasm shown by various WA based Indian organisations and the individuals. On behalf of Indian Society of WA I am highly appreciative and thank them all. I take this opportunity to sincerely thank our major sponsors for their continued support and commitment for our flagship annual Independence Day celebration. I also thank our Management Committee members and the volunteers who worked very hard for the past few months to put this wonderful programme together for you.

ISWA also celebrated the Indian Republic Day and Australia Day on 26th January this year for the very first time. It is a wonderful coincidence for these 2 great democracies of the world to have a common National Day.

Our India once known as "SONE KI CHIRIA" (Golden Bird) and hopefully the way its economy is growing, it will not be too distant in future when India may regain its old glory. Lets hope for the best.

We are developing our new constitution for our fast growing Indian Society of WA. We want our ISWA constitution to reflect the latest rules and regulations.

We have already issued the membership cards to the ISWA lifetime members and hope you will be able to avail some discounts/benefits from various participating businesses.

We are making progress in our efforts in acquiring our own building to make a cultural excellence centre, India House. It is our dream and hope one day we will make it happen.

We decided to write ISWA history for our future generations to show the gradual development and evolution of Indian Society of WA in Perth.

I encourage you all to listen to our radio programme aired every Saturday between 3 - 4 PM on 6 EBA 95.3 FM and participate by contacting our radio coordinator.

Photographs of our past events are available on Facebook under Indian Society of WA. Please use this page to follow the latest events, photos and videos.

Please enjoy the show and cheer on the participants.
